Case Study

Craig Botetourt Electric Cooperative

website design

Headquartered in New Castle, Virginia, the Craig Botetourt Electric Cooperative (CBEC) provides electricity and broadband services to the rural section of seven counties in western and southwestern Virginia. This area also contains a large portion of National Forest, the Virginia Department of Forestry, and the Appalachian Trail. Approximately 90 percent of their members are residential users who consume about 86 percent of their power load.

The Solution

Out of four regional advertising and marketing firms, 5Points Creative (5PC) was selected to help CBEC reimagine their site. When asked what the driving factor was in making their selection, Maiya noted that in addition to 5PC's strong portfolio of website work, they listened intently and engaged with her about CBEC's thoughts and ideas.  She appreciated 5PC’s responsiveness, creative abilities, and the fresh ideas that were added to her process.

5PC completed the website design and build work on time, on budget, and CBEC’s desired look and feel was present in all aspects of the project. The creative team also ensured that Maiya received the right training, and she now has the capability to edit and update the website without needing assistance.

Additionally, photography and editing services were added into the new site to improve its overall aesthetic. Generally, feedback has been great from site users and from the members of the co-op.

Results

“I remain very happy. We even received emails from board members telling us how pleased they are. I’m so grateful how everyone here works together. The leadership gave me the latitude to run with this project and then having it turn out so well with everyone here really pleased, it was great.” Maiya Ashby, Marketing Director

Challenge:

CBEC needed a more modern and engaging website to replace the dated one they had been using for several years. This site was hard to navigate, contained dated content and visuals, was difficult to edit, and didn’t portray them in a positive light.

Maiya Ashby, CBEC’s Marketing Director, had a specific vision in mind for a new website and was searching for the right partner to both drive the project and collaborate with her in order to successfully capture her vision. Specifically, she wanted a responsive site with easy navigation for their customers. There was also a strong interest in appealing to potential new residents and businesses that were considering relocating to the area.
