5Points Creative is excited to welcome Mike Dame as its new Director of Communications. In his role, he will provide strategic guidance to the full-service agency and its clients, focusing on marketing communications, public relations, and stakeholder engagement.
Dame brings more than 35 years of experience in multimedia communications and marketing across the healthcare, higher education and news media industries. He served as Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Carilion Clinic from 2016-2021, capping a 14-year career with southwest Virginia’s leading healthcare provider.
“Mike has been a trusted colleague, client, and resources since the founding of our agency in 2009,” said Bruce C. Bryan, founder and President of 5Points Creative. “I trust him implicitly. He’s a dynamic leader and strategic thinker who has already positively impacted our work and our clients’ success.
“With Mike on board, we will enhance our communication services as part of the integrated marketing and advertising strategies we create for our clients.”
Dame has consulted with 5PC since 2023. His new role is a natural next step.
"Joining the 5Points Creative team gives me an opportunity to work with great people and a diverse roster of clients. That’s very exciting to me,” Dame said.
After leaving Carilion, Dame relocated closer to his family in Florida, splitting time between there and his home in Virginia. He continued professional work as a strategic consultant, and as a freelance writer for news organizations in both states.
Dame started his professional career as a sportswriter for the Orlando Sentinel, covering the Florida Gators, Jacksonville Jaguars, and NASCAR. During that stretch, Mike was a voter for the Heisman Trophy and AP College Football Poll. He transitioned to a career in digital media, playing a pioneering role in the Sentinel’s online division where he advanced through several managerial positions, including editor of OrlandoSentinel.com and executive producer and product manager of the Sentinel’s portfolio of websites in Central Florida.
After 16 years with the Sentinel, Dame became Director of Web Communications at Virginia Tech. While there, in the wake of the April 16, 2007, mass shooting tragedy, he guided the university’s online communications and spoke frequently about his experiences.
Dame holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida and an MBA from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.
